Forum for the Civil Society of Southern Neighboring Countries

Mayor of Beit Sahour Mr. Jehad Khair has participated in the preparatory forum for the civil society of neighboring countries in the south held last week in Brussels / Belgium for 3 days from 10 - 12/7/2017 under the auspices of the European Union and in the presence of a group of civil society organizations, Institutions and representatives of countries and local bodies.

The forum included the discussion, preparation and planning of four main topics related to neighbouring countries in the South, as follows:
Migration and mobility and how to reduce the migration crisis and its repercussions
Ability to withstand and confront violent extremism and security issues and strengthen the work of civil society organizations and the security sector to empower people
Human rights issues, democratization, protecting the rights of vulnerable groups, preventing discrimination and developing the system of governance
Strengthen the leadership role of youth and capacity building to improve employment opportunities, reduce inequalities, focus on innovation, and building small enterprises as well as entrepreneurship to achieve a decent life for young people.
During the forum, the Mayor of Beit Sahour made a notable intervention regarding the challenges of the Palestinian youth and their ability to work. He called for the need to design and implement a common vision for education and vocational training in the region in order to improve the work environment and provide good job opportunities for youth and stimulate productivity. Moreover, the mayor has emphasized on the importance of linking civil society to the private sector with a focus on creativity, competitiveness and economic development.
In his speech, the Mayor spoke about the suffering of the Palestinian people under the Israeli occupation and its practices and violations of many rights and escalations practiced daily on Palestinians throughout the country.
