Omar Ibn Al Khatab Mosque:
The Omar Ibn Al Khatab Mosque, located in the center of Beit Sahour, was built over 500 years ago on land measuring just 50 square meters. This land was donated by the Islamic community of Beit Sahour. A small classroom was built adjacent to the Mosque to provide education for the community.
In 1953, the building was expanded and now covers 300 square meters. Again, this was achieved through donations from the community. Today, the Islamic Society in Beit Sahour runs a school, a nursery and a cultural center. During the year 2000 a new floor was being built on top of the existing building to enhance the facilities for the local Muslim community. Unfortunately, due to the current political unrest, there are not sufficient funds to complete it.
