Minister of Culture meets members of the Cultural Sahourian Dewan Minister of Culture Bassam Al-Salhi met Saturday 12/05/2007 with the president and members of the Cultural Sahourian Dewan headquartered in "Dar Dakarrat" in the presence of the city mayor, Hani Al-Hayek, writers, poets, university professors, members of the municipal council and a group of citizens. The writer Jacob Atrash welcomed the minister and officials of the Ministry of Culture in the governorate of Bethlehem on behalf of Al-Dewan, and he named the activities carried out by Al-Dewan, such as holding meetings with writers, poets and organizing political meetings and activities designed to enhance the concepts of preserving the national heritage and culture. The mayor of Beit Sahour welcomed the Minister and guests for being in Beit Sahour and in Al-Dewan that represents a remarkable development in cultural and heritage movement and the true legacy of our people.
And after, the Minister of Culture reviewed the important meanings of establishing cultural centers in collaboration with the ministry to create a kind of integration, and an end to the phenomenon of fragmentation, and stressed on the need to have a continuous national culture with other cultures and respect cultural pluralism away from discrimination. In addition, minister talked about current situation in the Palestinian National Authority which requires heavy operational and functional weight reach to 200 million dollars per month including salaries, and criticized the lack of a strategy to deal with this situation. He also reviewed the current field situations, such as security problems where there is no single security Repertory, no political decision, no political determination to solve the militias and all this would lead to further chaos and disturbance. At the end, questions and interventions were allowed.
