Beit Sahour Municipality hosts a signing ceremony of grant agreements between six southern municipalities with their local NGO partners and the Municipal Development Fund in cooperation with the NGO Development Center (Markez Tatweer)

An agreement signing ceremony was held on Tuesday morning at Beit Sahour Cultural and Heritage Center “Dar Dakarat” in Beit Sahour. The World Bank designated 6 grants of $ 100,000 each for six municipalities in the Southern West Bank (Hebron and Bethlehem governorates). Municipal Development and Lending Fund in partnership with the NGO Development Center (Markez Tatweer) are the implementing agents to this fund. Twenty- four municipalities competed to win this grand on the bases of viable projects that achieve the objective of the grand. The overall objective of the grand is to foster and develop a long partnership between municipal councils and the civil society groups in serving the community.

The Municipal Development and lending Fund will grant $70,000 for infrastructure work in each municipality and the NGO Development Center will contribute the sum of $30,000 for programs that will be sub implemented by each non-governmental organizations.

Beit Sahour Municipality and Palestine Wildlife Society, the municipality of Sourif and Sourif Charitable Society for the care of orphans, the municipality of Samu and Samu’s Youth Sports Club, the municipality of Al-Shuyoch and the Al- Shuyoch/ Hebron’s Zakaa Commission, the municipality of Beit Awa and Beit Awa Charitable Society and the municipality of Jnata and Jnata’s Women Center win the competition and signed the agreement.

The mayor of Beit Sahour Mr. Hani Al-Hayek welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of cooperation between municipalities and community organizations for the benefit of the citizens.

D. Iyad El Rammal – the General Director of Municipal Development and lending Fund and Mr. Ghassan Kasabreh- Director of the NGO Development Center talked about the importance of the project and its access to multiple integration to offer the citizens with the best services. Ms. Samah Abu Oun from Municipal Development and lending Fund and Mr. Khaled Al-Khatib and Mr. Nassar Al Sheikh Ali from the NGO Development Centre and representatives of municipalities and private organizations involved in the projects were also present at the signing of the agreement

In Beit Sahour, the municipality of Beit Sahour and Palestine Wildlife Society win the grant for an environmental conservation center project; the project’s objective is to develop a long term strategic plan that will jointly be carried out by the municipality and the wildlife society. The municipality will use the fund for building and finishing an environmental conservation center where all project activities will be placed, the Wildlife society will implement all workshops with the different community stakeholders (civil society groups, school children, neighborhood committees). where the final product of the project will be a long term strategic plan and a long term cooperation agreement that will organize the working relationship between the municipality and the wildlife society.
