A Delegation from Chile visited the Municipality of Beit Sahour
Mr. Al- Hayek welcomed the delegation on behalf of the council members and the community at large and gave a brief description about the economical and political situation in the city and Palestine under occupation and our longing for a just and lasting peace that will end occupation and permit for real and sustainable development of the city as well as the Palestinian community, the mayor added his pride and happiness that Mr. Qumsieh is coming back to his roots and visiting his relatives.
He added: “I take pride in four days in my life, the days of the birth of my three children and the fourth day is today the day of my visit to the home of my grandparents. At the end of the visit they exchanged memorial souvenirs. |
Mr. José Miguel de la Cruz, the representative of Chile to the Palestinian Authority accompanied by Mr. Marc Antonio Qumsieh; a well known Journalist and athletic and from a Palestinian origin accompanied by the director of the International Football Federation (FIFA) in Chile Mr. Herald Myne Nicholas and his wife visited the Municipality of Beit Sahour and toured the town of Mr. Qumsieh grandfathers. The delegation was received by the mayor Mr. Hani Al-Hayek, city council members and representatives of the civil society groups together with community prominent figures. 
Mr. Qumsieh, who was touched by this visit, thanked the mayor and the audience for the warm reception and expressed his happiness to visit his hometown to meet his relatives mentioning that his grandfather immigrated to Chile in 1927. He continued, “the Arab blood runs in my veins even though I was born in Chile, the city of Beit Sahour and the Bethlehem District and Palestine in General is always at the centre of my thinking”.
