Beit Sahour Municipality signed a Friendship Agreement with the Municipality of Doha – Qatar on April 6, 2009

A delegation from Beit Sahour Municipality lead by Mayor Hani Al-Hayek visited Doha, Qatar this past week to sign a Friendship Agreement between the Municipality of Beit Sahour and the Municipality of Doha, the signing ceremony took place on April 6, 2009 in the building of the Ministry of Municipal and Urban Planning. The delegation included: Mr. Fuad Kokaly, Legislative Council Member; Mr. Mohammad Al Hourani and Ms. Hannan Awad, Beit Sahour Municipality Council members; Ms. Maha Al Atrash- Director of the Mayor’s Office, Mr. Jamil Hannonah, head of the Heath and Environmental Department; and Ms. Naila Kokaly, the executive secretary for the Engineering Department.

Engineer Ibrahim Al Malki signed the agreement of behalf of Doha Municipality whereas Mr. Hani Al- Hayek signed it on behalf of Beit Sahour Municipality. The agreement aims to solidify the existing relationship and to encourage further interactions between the cities. It also allows for information transfer with regards to agriculture, construction and municipal services. In addition, it calls for the reciprocal exchange of visitations, as well as collaboration on various structural, environmental, and cultural projects in the future. Mayor Hani Al-Hayek extended a special invitation to Eng. Al Malki to visit Beit Sahour in the near future to set up a program for their joint projects and cooperation.

The delegation met and spoke with His Excellency Sheik Abd Al Rahman Bin Khalefa Al Thani, Minister of Municipal and Urban Planning where he commended the good relations that connect the two cities and he promised to extend his support to Beit Sahour Municipality within his capacity.

The delegation also toured the city of Doha and visited many key sites such as the Islamic Museum, the Embassy of the State of Palestine, the Palestinian School, the Arab Towns Organization Award, the Green Qatar Centre, and the Aspire Academy.

During the delegation's visit to the Palestinian School, there occurred a Grand Opening Celebration for the Palestinian School library with the presence of Mr. Qasem Radwan, Minister Plenipotentiary and Dr. Yehyia El Agha, Counselor and general supervisor of the Palestinian School. In honor of the visiting delegation, the library was named "Beit Sahour Library".
