Municipal Delegation Visits four Municipalities in Central Italy

From April 21-29, Mr. Mazin Shomali, Council member and Deputy Mayor, and Mr. Anton Musleh, Manager of the Administrative Office, accompanied by Father Faisal traveled to four municipalities in central Italy.

While in Anghiari, they met with Mayor Danilo Biachi, and discussed a possible twining agreement between the municipalities. Mr. Biachi plans on coming to Beit Sahour in June 2009 and generously offered to partner with other Italian municipalities in order to provide Beit Sahour with a crane. Mr. Shomali and Mr. Musleh also attended the 34th Annual Grand Opening of the Cultural Heritage Center in Anghiari in which Shadi Gerisa was a participant.

In Quattro-Castella, Deputy Mayor Mazin Shomali signed a new twinning and friendship agreement with Mayor Reggio Emilia. The delegation was able to participate in Italy's Indepence Day celebrations and Deputy Mayor Mazin Shomali decorated the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with a memorial wreath.

The delegation also made contact with the Municipality of Rufina where they met with the council members and the Rufina Chamber of Commerce and discussed various issues such as the economy, the problems Beit Sahour faces under the occupation and Ush Ghurab.

Finally, the delegation visited Mira, with whom Beit Sahour Municipality has enjoyed a twinning and friendship agreement since September 29, 2008. Mayor Michele Carpeneti, the council members and the delegations enjoyed a piano concert performed by Ramis Shomali. Mayor Carpeneti pledged to support the Beit Sahour Medical Center with a mammogram machine.
