Official Visit from the British Consul Richard Makepeace May 28, 2009
On May 28, 2009 the British Consul, Mr. Richard Makepeace made his first visit to Beit Sahour Municipality. The Consul was received by the Mayor of Beit Sahour, Mr. Hani Al-Hayek and presented with a gift. The Beit Sahour Municipality also presented a PowerPoint presentation covering the municipality's strategic overview as well as past, present, and future projects.
Unsurprisingly, Consul Makepeace lunched with the Mayor and a delegation from Opsterland, Holland which included the Mayor, Ms Francisca Ravestein at Ush Ghurab Public Peace Park.
Afterwards, Consul Makepeace was taken to visit Al Basma Center for Children with Special Needs and the Shepherd's Field Hospital which handles minor surgeries and maternity.
Additionally the British Consul was taken to see the newly established Ghudreya and Jenayna Roads and the location of the new Municipal Complex Project which recently received funding from the Ministry of Finance and the European Union to build Phase I.
Consul Makepeace was very pleased with the presentation and the tour. He expressed his intent to strengthen the relationship between the British Consulate and Beit Sahour Municipality. Consequently, he invited Mayor Hani Al-Hayek and his wife to attended Queen Elizabeth's Birthday Celebration which will take place June 8, 2009 at Consul Makepeace's home in Jerusalem.
