SMALT Expo, Salerno, Campania Region, Italy October 8-9, 2009 A delegation comprised of Mayor Hani Al-Hayek, Project Development Manager, Eng. Hanan Manoly and International Relations Officer, Lubnah Shomali attended the SMALT Expo in Salerno, Italy hosted the Campania Regional Government. The Mediterranean Congress of Local Authorities and Areas (SMALT) was held at the bequest of the Vice President of the Campania Region and Representative on Relations with Mediterranean Countries, Mr. Antonio Valiante. Many of the attendees which included representatives from the countries of Greece, Malta, Tunis, Syria, Egypt, Israel and of course, Italy presented their experiences and projects centered around two major themes: transport and tourism. Beit Sahour Municipality presented the Beit Sahour Conservation Project for the Rehabilitation of the Old Core which was created in cooperation with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Preservation (CCHP) under the umbrella of the Bethlehem Area Conservation and Management Plan (BACMP) which was funded by the Italian government in 2007. This Expo is intended to be the first in many that focus on the issues of Mediterranean cross border cooperation facilitation and enhancement. |
