Caritas and Beit Sahour Municipality Sign Contract for 19 Sewage Lines in the City

On January 14, 2010 Caritas-Jerusalem, an affiliate of Caritas Internationalis, represented by Mme Claudette Habesch, the Secretary General, signed a contract with Beit Sahour Municipality, represented by Mayor Hani Al-Hayek for the development of 19 sewage lines with in the city.

The proposal had been under consideration by Caritas for the last two years. The approval of the project translates into effectively supplying 40% of the current sewage needs for Beit Sahour inhabitants. The approximate number of direct beneficiaries includes over 460 households, estimated at 2300 people. The project is also designed to generate income for unskilled and low-skilled laborers.

The signing was attended by various representatives of the local organizations, the Municipal Council, and some of the direct beneficiaries of the project. Mme Habesch and Mayor Al-Hayek high-lighted the special relationship between Caritas and Beit Sahour: specifically, the intention of continuing to cooperate and support each other in the future. Mme Habesch was accompanied by the Project Coordinator, Mr. Eillya Costandinides, who has been an invaluable partner to both Caritas and Beit Sahour.

Implementation of the project is scheduled to begin in 3 weeks.
